How-to run the edge browser as built-in (local) administrator on Windows Server 2016 or Windows 10
When you’re logged in with the built-in Administrator on a Windows Server 2016 or Windows 10 box, you can’t start the Edge browser.
Default security will prevent you from using the Edge browser and suggests you to login with a different user.
To workaround this, you can follow these instructions:
- (windows+r) run gpedit.msc
- go to: Computer configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options -> User Account Control: Admin Approval Mode for the Built-in Administrator account -> Enabled
- Reboot the Windows Server 2016 box (windows+r -> shutdown /r /t 0)
- enjoy using Edge with the local administrator account
